Storefronts in Iran may not display curvy mannequins, or those that sport neckties. Police in Iran have redoubled efforts to ensure the mannequins don’t appear “Western.”
In a state-run newspaper, Iranian authorities under Mahmoud Ahmadinejad issued a reminder to store owners that they must not display mannequins that wear underwear, or that show womanly curves. The dummies are also supposed to have proper headscarves in keeping with Islamic Hijab.
It said, in part: “Using unusual mannequins exposing the body curves and with the heads without hijabs are prohibited to be used in the shops.”
The message also stated that they shouldn’t wear neckties because it is considered a Western style. It even went so far as to say that men can’t even sell women’s underwear in stores.
As Ahmadinejad attempts to beat off Western influence with a stick, he still faces criticisms of a rigged election. Angry citizens protested in the streets following his “re-election” earlier this year, a victory many felt belonged to the reformists. Ever since, these sort of initiatives have been popping up, which some say is a sign that his government may be trying to further suppress any dissent.
From an American perspective it seems utterly absurd for the government to strong-arm shop owners by telling them what they can and can’t display. I don’t think it’s too ethnocentric of me to suggest that the actions of the regime are a bit oppressive, is it?
The message also seems to be turning the citizens on each other. The Associated Press reports that it also suggested that those who violate the ban should be confronted to ensure that Iran is “safeguarding religious values and the Islamic revolution.”
What do you think about Iran’s ban on curvy mannequin’s and neckties? Give us your thoughts in the comments section below.
I also included a video interview with the president of Iran below.

Hellloo = what is Ahma… doing appearing in a western coat and a formal shirt with no tie? He looks not like a world leader..compare him to pictures of other leaders wearing standard clothes,but a guy who a) doesn’t know how to knot a tie, 2)has been wearing one all day and took if off, 3)doesn’t know how to dress, 4)hates ties. Nothing ‘religious’ comes through. To represent someone’s faith, give me a candle, angels, Xmas, a cross of some style, incense, Gregorian Chants, altars, statues..oh yes, how about a photo of the pope?
He should stick to his p.j. look, specially if that one assures him he’ll skip hell. Before he and his ilk appeared, the proof is in older videos, Iranian’s dressed well, seemed Parisians. My response to his recommendations is the classic example of Roman Catholic distorted teaching regarding patent-leather shoes, knee high skirts and fish on Fridays. They call ri dicule to themselves. If you want to stand out as non-western, tattoo a third eye on your forehead. That will certainly make you stand out or - spend a few billions and re-dress your population in 14th century clothes. Will he next decide that sliced bread is too Western and sandwiches are now forbidden? He sounds like he’s getting advice from his ‘ayyatola’ who most likely is wearing a Brooks Brothers suit when out of camera range. Religious stiffs are such hypocrites!!!

What the #^%*???? Do middle eastern women not wear undergarments? Oh my. What a smelly situation!! I perfer undergarments for santitary purposes. And I do prefer that they look halfway decent. But who cares what middle eastern women think or feel. They are regarded as less than plankton anyway. How the hell do all these men think they got here, by the birth stork? Why doesn’t he just take the women at birth and put them in the female closet and pass them out at random when (barely) old enough to pass out the mid eastern men to use and abuse to his standards. What a smuck (I have other words, but I’ll keep them to myself)

Another religious zealot who is a total Jack A$$. He uses religion to hide behind. I have nothing against any religions but when you hide behind your religion, any credibility it had is gone.
This creep has to go…Not because of his religion but because he is a power hungry, maniacly evil who can’t get over being so damn short. By the way he needs to not dress so Western and go back to wearing his PJ’s. Maybe that would give him some stature…Naa, there is no help for this A$$ hole. He is what he is…a diminutive creep with no self esteem.
There is so much more I want to say but I don’t think this pr!(k deserves any more time.

I urge everyone to read Dr. David Jeremiah’s book, “What in the World is Going On?. Even if you are not a Christian, you need to be aware of the insidious plans of radical Islam.
If we don’t understand what is happening in Europe now and realize that America is next on the list to be assimilated, somewhere in the future we may be living under these repressive conditions.

wow, it’s interesting that MEN are allowed to dress “western” but not women. (& this isn’t the first time I’ve seen an Islamic leader wearing a western suit.) Hmmm.
Recently there was a women who was arrested & fined $200. (she could have also recieved 40 lashes but they relented on that one) her crime? wearing pants. WHY? because “…pants draw too much attention to the crotch area…” (um…I highly doubt she had a “camel toe!”) I’ve seen pictures of Islamic women in pants, and they’re ALWAYS wearing loose flowing pants with a long tunic style shirt, so their crotch area doesn’t even show. It’s ridiculous. If she were wearing super-tight jeans that went up her crack front & back, (haha) then MAAYBE I could see what they’re talking about, but she wasn’t. & even if that were the case…it hardly merits a $200 fine and several days in jail.
I respect everyone’s religion even if I heartily dissagree, they (and I) have a right to religious freedoms & personal opinions as long as it doesn’t infringe on the rights of others.
I must say however that I don’t like organized religion because although it can help a great many people, it’s often used as a form of control, especially Christianity & Islam. (dissagree with me politely if you want, but please don’t tell me I’m “going to hell” or I’m an infidel and thus deserve to die.) I DO believe in a creator & I have conservative moral standards, but I consider myself a spiritual person rather than a “religious” one. As we all share mother earth & we’re all human & created equal, we should all try to get along and help each other rather than being cruel to each other.
Every person in the world should be as free as American’s are, and I hope that happens someday but it won’t until;
1.) All of us women take back our power & decide we’re not going to put up with being treated as second class citizens anymore! & 2.) The good men in the world decide they’re not going to allow other men to treat women badly!
(what would happen if every woman stood up today and just refused to be oppressed any longer?) Keep in mind: I’m NOT a feminist or a man-hater! I’m a straight, happily married mom of 2, I love men, they have a lot to offer the world.
TAKE OFF THE BURQUA’S, GIRLS! WOOT! : D
It’s pretty messed up when women are forced to wear “burquini’s” and the government regulates the appearance of store maniquins! WTF?!
For me, it comes down to 5 things;
1.) People need to stop using religion as a way to control people.
2.) Women (and men) need to stand up for women’s rights. (I DON’T mean abortion, I just mean the right to wear what they want, drive, have a job, speak freely, hold thier boyfreind or husband’s hand in public, not be mistreated)
3.) Separation of church & state needs to be a world-wide thing. Governments should NEVER EVER be enforcing religious laws.
4.) People need to concentrate on things that are actually important like the environment, helping each other, positive energy. Here we are in a world where people are starving, clean water is getting scarcer, climate change is starting to wreak havoc, etc, and all we care about are what stores put on thier manniquins or that a woman wore pants? How F’d up is that, I mean…really??
5.) People need to stop hating those who are different than them, and instead talk to them, see thier point of view, try to understand.
Only then will RIDICULOUS crap like this go away. Only then will the world be safer for our women, children, and even our men. (they won’t have to fear that thier wife could be imprisoned, fined or killed just for violating some stupid religious law)
I could go on & on but I hope everyone gets my point.
*praying for peace*

Thank you for posting this interview…it was very insightful.
A note to people leaving comments:
It would be wise to listen to this interview first, before shooting off at the mouth all loose-cannon. Then, a valid opinion can be formed, rather than a half-baked, biased judgment based on a quick graze-over of an article like the one above about mannequins and neckties.
