Emanuel Ungaro’s 2010 Spring / Summer collection was presented this weekend as part of Paris Fashion Week. The show was eagerly anticipated following Lindsay Lohan’s appointment as the fashion house’s new creative director.
Many people were puzzled by Ungaro’s move to choose Lohan, calling it nothing more than a gimmick. If that were the case, it worked, because I’ve heard more people talk about them now that she is involved than ever before. Either way, this weekend was her big chance to show the world that she has an eye for fashion.
About her experience working with designer Estrella Archs (above), Lindsay said:
“We both kind of mixed our (ideas) together, and that’s why it came out so well…I think it’s fantastic and I think it’s so expressive in so many ways.”
Well the critics didn’t seem to share that sentiment. WWD called the clothes “cheesy and dated,” saying that it fell short of reflecting Lohan’s youthful influence. FWD went so far as to say that parts of the show were unprofessional. Both they and the LA Times ripped her for the use of heart pasties on the foreheads of many of the models.
Yipes, Lindsay. Not a good start. I actually feel kind of bad for her. It really seems like everything she tries to do is poo-pooed by anyone and everyone. Think about it: One of the Pussy Cat Dolls cancels on the Singapore Grand Prix, so she gets the hosting job, and all anybody (including myself) can do is mock her. From what I understand she even got booed off of the stage! Someone burglarizes her house, and there’s not a shred of consternation from the media, only attempts to connect her with the perpetrator.
Now she gets a gig with a real fashion house in Paris, and all anyone has done so far is rag on her. Sure, they could have chosen her just for publicity, but I guess it’s sad that the first show she was involved with may have proven all the haters right. (Is there a tear running down your face yet?) Well, mine neither…
