A work done by the famous Avant Garde artist sat collecting dust in Cathy Naso’s closet. The story behind the portrait is quite fascinating:

Naso worked as a receptionist at Warhol’s factory. Then, in 1967 When she was 19-years-old, he personally gave her a self-portrait and even inscribed it to her. The woman only had the painting on display for a short time before storing it away.

Now it has been uncovered and dusted off, and is expected to rake in nearly $1 million at a Sotheby’s auction on November 11th. Until then, it will be displayed at Sotheby’s New York office for fans to see.

At least she had the wisdom to hold on to it. It drives me nuts when I hear stories about people who unwittingly sell priceless works of art at year sales for peanuts, only to find out that the person who bought it was able to sell it for a pile of cash.

It’s really worth the time to have items appraised if you aren’t sure about them. Pardon the cliché, but, one person’s trash in another one’s treasure.

How much do you think the lost Warhol painting could fetch at the auction?
